Mandatory Postal Code at Checkout: Faster Sorting, More Accurate Free Courier Pickup, and Better Cost Estimates

Mandatory Postal Code at Checkout: Faster Sorting, More Accurate Free Courier Pickup, and Better Cost Estimates

We’ve updated the shipment checkout flow on BPD Express: the postal code (ZIP / post code) is now a required field. This small change gives our warehouse automation and AI-supported sorting line the precise data needed to route your parcel correctly, plan a free home pickup by courier across Europe more accurately — and estimate delivery costs more precisely already at the time you place your request.

Why the postal code is now required

1) Warehouse automation and AI-assisted sorting

The postal code is a key routing parameter for automated logistics. It helps the system:

  • identify the correct direction and logistics flow faster;

  • send the shipment into the right container during sorting without manual clarification;

  • reduce routing errors;

  • speed up processing during peak periods.

2) Free courier pickup from home — better time planning

BPD Express offers free courier pickup on request. The postal code helps us:

  • build a more efficient courier route and assign pickup zones correctly;

  • calculate the pickup time window more accurately;

  • reduce rescheduling caused by incomplete address data.

3) More accurate delivery cost estimates

Postal codes improve how the system determines tariff geography and processing zones, which means your preliminary cost estimate at checkout becomes more accurate and transparent.
Important: if your final price is confirmed after a control weigh/measure at the warehouse, that step remains final — but mandatory postal codes reduce the need for address-based clarifications and related recalculations.

FAQ

1) What changed on the BPD Express website?

The postal code (ZIP/post code) is now mandatory when placing a shipment request. This supports accurate routing, automated sorting, free courier pickup planning, and a more precise preliminary cost estimate.

2) Why is the postal code mandatory now?

It helps the system identify the correct destination flow faster, route parcels during sorting correctly, and reduce manual address clarifications.

3) How is the postal code related to sorting and AI?

Our warehouse uses automation and an AI-assisted sorting line. The postal code is a key routing input that helps algorithms assign shipments to the correct logistics flow and container.

4) How does the postal code affect free home pickup?

It improves courier routing and pickup time window calculations, reducing rescheduling caused by incomplete address details.

5) Does the postal code change the delivery price?

Making the postal code mandatory does not increase prices. It makes the preliminary estimate more accurate by improving tariff-zone and processing-zone detection, reducing address-based recalculations.

6) Can the final price differ from the preliminary estimate?

If your final price is confirmed after a control weigh/measure at the warehouse, that remains the final step. The postal code mainly reduces discrepancies related to address/route clarification.

7) What happens if I don’t enter a postal code?

You won’t be able to complete the shipment request — the form requires it to proceed.

8) What if I enter an incorrect postal code?

It may cause delays or clarification requests, because the postal code is used for routing, sorting, and pickup planning. Please double-check it before submitting.
